How to Select Art For Your Walls

Instead of buying art that matches your accessories like throw pillows and furniture, purchase work that you love and that may be a little out of your comfort zone. Some thing a bit edgy. Bright colors immediately bring life to a space.
Large Artwork will certainly change a room and give the space a filling of fullness. Which may be a reason that I love to create large pieces like murals. Because of the mural size and colors they just automatically fill and brighten up a room. If you pay attention when you walk into a room with empty walls doesn’t the space you’re in feel empty? The room feels lifeless and the irony is that if it’s a home or office the habitants of the space also have a boring and empty kind of feeling about them.
Choosing the right kind of artwork for your walls and space can be crucial if you are concerned about a certain kind of flow and creating a great theme. Small pieces can get drowned out depending on the size of the room, the space placement of the artwork, and the size of your furniture. For instance, if your couch is 70 inches, or so long then your artwork should be at least 50 inches or so large. You can also place two pieces side by side to give it that large appearance.
Art prints are great because you can have them printed in a variety of sizes and they can also be printed to look like the original. These are refered to as Giclee prints
Tip: Make sure that the bottom of the frame sits six to ten inches above the top of the furniture. You can try making your ceiling look higher by placing the top edge of the artwork closer to the ceiling. Try placing art at eye level as well.
Example below. When it comes to framing, well the frames are just as important as the artwork because it is the frame that helps the artwork pop so-to-speak and should compliment the art. I usually don’t frame the moderate size pieces I create because I believe just as the art is personal for the patron, so is the type of frame the patron may want. Plus, it's gonna cost my patron more for the piece when I have to frame it.
Stretched canvases (ready to hang) do not need a frame. Oil paintings need to breathe so it is best not to set them behind glass. Large photographs appear best in acrylic or Plexiglas. For muted looking artwork think about a colorful frame to brighten it up.
Art serves multiple purposes in our lives. Not only does art document our times and history, but art is also noted as a phenomenal healer of many afflictions. I actually ran a Survey using LinkedIn as candidates on the subject of How Art Heals. Unfortunately during trasition of Websites the information got lost. However, you will be seeing what was saved of the study in post to come. In addition, as most of us probably already know, art is how we express ourselves. Rather we create art, or love to collect it and show it off as a part of our decorum art speaks out loud to others of our personality. Art is involved in our daily life in some form, and in some aspect. From the clothes we wear, the homes we live, the places we work to the cars we drive.
So, before you buy another piece of artwork to hang on your walls consider the theme for your space. Be daring, be edgy and let yourself think outside of your own box. Think about large pieces of artwork, and colors that will help fill up a space without cluttering the space up with bulky furniture fixtures. You can still incorporate smaller pieces especially in your bathroom and kitchen.
Tip: Try to stay a bit low key in the bathroom with smaller pieces of art that helps to create a claiming effect.
* Create a mini gallery in your hallway. To kind of get a feel for how you want your gallery to look you can use butcher paper to recreate the size of the wall , or connect several pieces of standard size paper (9x11inches) and place the paper on the floor. Lay the pieces that you will hang on the paper and arrange and rearrange the artwork until you are happy with the look. Take a pen, pencil, marker whatever you have to mark the placement of the work. Try to recreate the placement of the work by using the sample you created. For example:
Paper ——————————————————————————– How you select art for your walls is certainly up to you. However, remember that your art reflects your personality. Your art will speak the words you can’t. Art opens up for conversation and can help break the ice in the room, so-to-speak. Original art can become worth more than was paid for it over time, even original art prints. On that note art should be considered an investment.
