Created On My Cell Phone

Tradition meets Modern Technology is about integrating the classical and the traditional with today's modern art tools. I've been exploring this technique for a while now, way before many artists of today. I recall, during my early college art academic training days at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago there existed a lot mixed feelings on the use of computer and creative software to be considered as serious art.

It was our belief over 10 to 15 years ago many professional practicing artists and artists in the making had the notion that a true artist uses his, her hands, toes, mouth whatever bodily part to create and produce fine art. The use of any tools outside of paint brush, hammer etc and without the use of drippy paint then the artist is a Wanna-be artist. I was one of the first to say cheer this concept on.

Then one day as I played around with my computer's paint software I noticed how much more creative one can become. There exist over a trillion colors to choose from. Not one artist alive could use up that much color. Over time I also realized there is the opportunity to create an X amount of pictures/images from just one drawing. I refer to the work I produce from using my original artwork and integrating the imagery with paint software as, Original Art-prints.

The content of the work shown above titled, Oakland Landscape was actually created using only the Cell phone's creative software. To observe an Original art-print created using original artwork please see, Swan. Tradition .vs. Modern Technology, blog.

In June of this years I was visiting my family in Oakland California and my daugher gave birth to her first child. I call her FeFe. The weather did not become nice until the day my grand-daughter arrived. I lie to you not. From mid may to nearly the end of that month the days were dreary, rainy and cold.

During one of Oakland's nice sunny days I took a stroll down to the neighborhood garden. The garden was my saintuary I visited often. The day was ripe for painting and drawing something (anything) outside. The scene is so beautifully filled with colorful flowers. Birds, butterflies and the ocassional geese help to create a serine and peaceful city landscape in bliss.

I captured the scene as best I could utilizing the art tools I had at hand. Sometimes to travel without materials and supplies from home and studio eases up the travel load. Besides, I really want to explore today's technology . So, here above you have a running view of my marks on video that it took to create the Oakland Landscape 1. Original Art-print, below.
